Appearance: Roughly 5’6 in height, Riku possesses long, black hair, some of it covering his right eye. He prefers darker clothing to anything else, such as black, or a deep magenta. His eyes are a piercing,wise, cold blue. One his back is a tattoo that says "The only one to judge me is myself, in old English text-style. There is a cris-cross scar on his right wrist, where he injured it in a training session There is also a large gash on his left arm, from a blade wound when he was attacked at an outside lesson. He keeps a small flute in his left pocket, and a pencil in his right ear.

Personality: Riku tends to be quiet about most things when he is in a group he dosen’t know. Other than that, he will talk openly with people he admires or likes. In battle, he concentrates on what he has to do, and doesn’t allow his emotions to get to him. Outside of battle, Riku is a very loyal person, and he will always try to act in the best interests of his division. When he sits down to write, he enjoys using his mind to write about epic adventure stories, the words leaping from his mind to the paper. He loves a good laugh, but will never get one at the expense of another. He prefers to either spend time with his friends, or to stay in his quarters writing a book, witch he hopes to get published one day. When he gets bored of even that, RIku easily entertains his friends with a song he wrote, songs witch seem to dance in the air by themselves.

History:
Before Death, Riku had been a Police Captian in Karakura town, with over one hundred sussecful arrests. He dies in his fifth year as an officer, cause of death was a bullet to the heart. He died saving a young girl from a kidnapper.
When Riku appeared into the soul society, he was welcomed with open arms into a middling area of Rukongai, where there was only a little crime. There, he got along with mostly everybody, and always tried to not wrong anybody. After only a few years, when one of his neighbors got promoted to a Shinigami, he suddenly felt weak, and collapsed. He was told that this was because Riku had strong spiritual powers of his own, and should try to become a Shinigami himself.
And so, he began to practice controlling his spiritual powers, soon entering the Shinigami academy. He excelled in swordsmanship, but in doing this, he made a lot of enemies. One night, these enemies attempted to draw him out and attack him . They failed to do so, because Riku had just succeeded in using his first Kido.
Riku began practicing even harder, no longer wishing to please everyone. All he had cared about was becoming an excellent Shinigami, so he trained in all areas as best as he possibly could. Three years later, he graduated from the academy, the absolute top of his class. That give Riku a major ego boost, it was as if the world was telling him to urge onward.
